The number of commercial airports in the Chinese mainland has increased to 254 as of last year, a rise of six over the end of 2021, according to a newly released report about China's civil aviation development.

According to the report, which was released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China on Wednesday, the number of the country's general airports was 399, an increase of 29 over 2021.

By last year, China had 4,165 fleets, 111 more than 2021. Some 4,670 scheduled air routes were operated, including 4,334 domestic and 336 international routes. The country also had 66 airlines with 57,854 pilots, 2,277 more than 2021. The number of flight attendants as of last year was 85,001, down 3,125 from 2021, the report said.

By the end of 2022, 40 countries and regions had established bilateral airworthiness relations with China, and 191 bilateral airworthiness documents were in effect. China has signed 129 bilateral air transport agreements with other countries and regions, according to the report.
