Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.78 percent, at 3,446.73 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.91 percent higher at 13,642.96 points.   

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 735.5 billion yuan (about 113.1 billion U.S. dollars), down from 807 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to carbon neutrality and environmental protection engineering saw strong performances, while those related to coal and steel led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.06 percent to close at 2,672.12 points.
