BEIJING – Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.57 percent, at 3,643.34 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.49 percent higher at 14,863.93 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.077 trillion yuan ($169 billion), up from 1.062 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to renewable energy, coal mining and pork production posted strong performances, while real estate shares led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.15 percent to close at 3,373.7 points.
