Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.83 percent, at 3,536.29 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.64 percent lower at 14,079.02 points.  

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.13 percent to close at 3,175.15 points Wednesday.
