BEIJING – Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.8 percent, at 3,557.41 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.38 percent higher at 14,696.29 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.01 trillion yuan (US$156.3 billion), largely flat with the volume seen in the previous trading day.

Shares in the combustible ice industry and mining services led the gains, while shares related to digital currency saw losses.

China's central bank has held regulatory talks with some banks and non-bank payment platforms, urging them to stop providing services for virtual-currency speculation.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.35 percent to close at 3,281.99 points Tuesday.
