A total of 33 women made it on the New Fortune Chinese Rich Women 2021, with an overall wealth of 1.21 trillion yuan (US$187.10 billion), said the New Fortune on Sunday.

Their total wealth was up 74 percent from 692.49 billion yuan of 2020. The average wealth recorded was 36.5 billion yuan, up 42 percent from 25.65 billion yuan in 2020.

Compared with rich men who tend to rake wealth in industries such as telecommunications, media, and technology as well as machinery or chemical engineering, rich women focus more on medical and biological industries. Many of them have a background of medical biology or chemistry.

Country Garden co-chairwoman Yang Huiyan, who was born in 1980s, retained her position as the richest Chinese woman with a wealth of 180.36 billion yuan but saw her wealth growing slower than the overall growth of the women on the list.

There were 11 newcomers on this year's list, and three of them, namely Wang Ying, Gong Yingying and Huang Wei, started from scratch.
